The Technocratic Confederacy of The Platinate is a tiny, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its frequent executions, ubiquitous missile silos, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-working, democratic population of 16 million Cations have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The tiny government juggles the competing demands of Education, Industry, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 5.9%.
The thriving Cation economy, worth 1.33 trillion scantrons a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Trout Farming industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Tourism. Average income is 82,900 scantrons, with the richest citizens earning 5.1 times as much as the poorest.
Prime commercial land is being swamped with archaeological teams, urban citizens are forced onto public transport while rural citizens ride horses and buggies, leather-clad individuals can be seen walking their slaves in public parks, and days begin with afternoon tea. Crime is moderate, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. The Platinate's national animal is the Narwhal, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans.
The Confederacy is a closely knit economic and political union of ethnically homogeneous cantons together in goal but very much separated in social values. The central government in Karbyen, the Technocongress, relegates much power to the cantons' own elected councils, and instead carries out the duties of foreign policy as Sivella's science minister, the ensuring of the nation's interconnectedness through its iconic public transport program, and limited law enforcement. It is up to the cantons to manage their own social and economic affairs. Only academic and technical officers, like engineers, are allowed to run for office.
The island nation is officially neutral in all armed conflicts, and is defended by its own cold tundra climate and mountainous geography, the white luster of which gave the nation its name.
